Back to School Goals

Hello!

I'm linking up with:

I {Heart} Recess

for her Monthly Goals-Back to School Edition!

I still have almost a month to go (I don't go back until August 26th)-but I'm always thinking about what I could do better/different!

Personal: I did pretty good with this one last year-and I want to keep it up! I definitely felt more relaxed with my students last year from previous years-and I think it was because I left a lot of stuff at school and tried not to stress over it.

Organization: I'll be doing some major organizing before school starts (stay tuned!), and I want to keep it that way!

Planning: I plan about three days ahead-so I can change it easily if something happens. I definitely want to stay more on top of that this year-and add in and keep track of the CC standards I teach

Professional: We're (my 4th grade team) are hoping to get approval for a Lucy Calkins workshop-and I think it would be good if we were on the same page with things! We're also piloting 3 different math programs this year-it should be interesting!

Students: My biggest goal is to make learning fun for them and to realize that they can achieve great things

Motto: Everyone needs a little nonsense/fantasy in their lives! Helps with critical thinking ;)

What are your goals?

Smiles and Sunshine,
Kaitlyn

  1. Great goals! I'm halfway through the school year- just back from a 2 week vacation (I'm in New Zealand so your big summer vacation isn't until December). I've got similar goals- especially keeping things organized. INCLUDING MY DESK. It was our first day with proper maths rotations today for the term and I DRILLED into the kids the importance of the maths boxes being kept organized!

I like planning the same way too... I plan Mon-Wed, then Thurs, Fri... (apart from a general overview of the week)... I find if I try and do a whole week in advance too much happens and it ends up getting scrapped haha!

  2. Those are some great goals. Keeping school at school is definitely difficult; especially in the beginning of the year. I also like that you want to teach the kids to be confident. That is so crucial to success in school and life. I didn't gain confidence until college and still work on it to this day. Good luck with the new math program. I love going to workshops because I always learn such great things.
Enjoy what is left of your summer.

  4. I agree with your personal goal! I will do a better job at keeping work related stuff at work. We need and deserve personal time. I plan to work efficiently while at work so that there isn't a need to bring it home.

  6. I love Lucy Calkins too. My district has implemented their own units of study for writing but I wish they would just use hers....so much better and more kid friendly. Her book Pathways to the Common Core is excellent!

I am your newest follower :)
