Time for another Workshop Wednesday with Jivey!
Today I'm going to talk about setting up writing.
Last year, my students had writing binders (with 5 tabs-First Draft, Published, Free Write, Poetry, Writing Notes).
We had the green binders :)
This year though, I'm going to try something a little different.
Instead of binders, we are going to try 8-pocket folders.
Right now, they'll have a section for pre-writes/brainstorm, first drafts, editing/revision, published, poetry, rubrics, and writing helpers. I still have to think on the other two. Any suggestions?
I also have to set up my Steps Pencil-I have to add more clips! I have more students this year. :)

I think it will be a good reminder for the kids before they have me take a look at it!
I also have to set up my VOICES board (and you know, update this year ;)
And of course, make sure I have plenty of Mentor Texts to get the job done! :)

Since you asked for suggestions...I think you should have a section in your 8 pocket folders for resources such as word lists and grammar rules.

Lookin' good! I like the idea of having a pocket for word lists too - maybe tricky words and lists of vivid verbs/synonyms to use instead of those words they use constantly!! Thanks for linking up!

I really like the super writers checklist. I can't think of other categories. In our binders we break down the genres a little more, like letter writing, non-fiction, retells, persuasive etc. I also have a section for mini-lesson work.
ReplyDeleteI love having a community of writers, so why not have a review tab. Where students can read others work and write positive comments or questions on a blank paper attached to each students work.
