Today's Topic: Attention Getters and Transitions
My very favorite attention getter is my magic wand.
Please ignore the sparse plans below :) |
I introduced it (read: trained) at the beginning of the school year. I have them walk around the room, talking to each other and I will hit it on something. They quickly learn to stop and look at me.
If you want to know more about them or where to get them, click here (I picked mine up a a local teacher store (now closed :( so I could test out the chimes ;).
I also use this trick...If you hear my voice, clap once. If you hear my voice, clap twice. If you hear my voice, clap three times.
Usually by the 3rd time, I have most of the kids looking at me. If not, I repeat it until I do. I say it in a very soft voice-forcing them to pay more attention to me!
What are some of your tricks?

Wow Kaitlyn, you were quick to link up! Thanks for joining the party.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of using a chime. It seems more distinctive then a bell. I will have to think about getting one.
Also, I use "if you hear my voice..." too. It's a good one!
Thanks for sharing!

What excellent Tricks! I have got to get me one of those fancy wind chime things! My kids would go nuts for that :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your blue shirt from Tuesday - that is my absolute favorite color.

I use a trick similar to your "If you hear my voice..." I had the wand too, but it was never loud enough. Chimes do work great.
