Worries Over!

This week our 4th graders were tested in Science using the NECAP test.

(ELA and Math are tested in October-4th grade is tested on 3rd grade skills-weird, right?!)

It had two days of test questions and constructed response, and yesterday was the inquiry task and analysis (which they said they had a lot of fun with!).

Before we started, I used this awesome, amazing idea from Suntans and Lesson Plans.

Right before the test started on Tuesday, I passed out small pieces of construction paper, and told them to write and worries, questions or nervousness about the test.

After everyone had written it down, I had them rip it into little pieces and place them in the bag.

I taped it to the board and labeled it-to show the kids that even though they had worries, we had them contained.

Yesterday, when we finished, we celebrated.

I took their worries and threw it at them (THAT was A LOT of fun for me!! ;)

Then, I had them gather the worries up a few times and throw them in the air themselves (they really enjoyed that!).

We celebrated by reading a few stories (a rare treat in my room! -unfortunately!)

How do you handle the big test?
